About Me
Ian MacPherson is a life-long Hamiltonian and resident of Ward One. He grew up in the Strathcona neighbourhood, spending much of his free time in Victoria Park. He has witnessed the many changes to the area over the past four decades, as Hamilton has grown exponentially.
He now enjoys Victoria Park from a very different stage of life and perspective. Ian’s passion for politics began at a young age out of a genuine desire to make positive changes in the community. Change is something Ian was forced to confront at a young age, going from a typical childhood experience to being in a wheelchair in a short period of time, as a result of being diagnosed with a rare muscle disease. Ian has spent his life observing the world and his Ward One community from this unique position. He has seen how injustice, systemic oppression, and wasted resources have impacted Hamilton residents. Ian’s life-changing experience with disability shaped him into the fierce advocate he is today. Ian; “I feel a duty to serve my friends and neighbours to help ensure we continue to enjoy a quality of life I myself was so lucky to experience growing up here in Ward One. There's a good chance you'll see me wheeling through Victoria Park, accompanied by my young family and all our friends. Please don't be shy and feel free to introduce yourself, as I appreciate the opportunity to speak with fellow Ward One residents. It would be an honour to act as a representative for my community as councillor of Ward One.
